Grant application checklist

Follow these simple steps to find out if you’re eligible and apply for funding to upgrade your vehicle.

For buses and coaches – Please note that we are currently processing existing grant applications only. We will consider new grant applications to support bus and coach replacement, subject to funding availability and eligibility criteria.

Step 1 - Check your vehicle

Have you owned your vehicle since before 18 July 2022?

Check whether it is non-compliant

Step 2 - Check your location

If you have a non-compliant van, light goods vehicle, minibus or HGV that is registered to an address in Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Northumberland or County Durham local authority areas, you are eligible to apply for funding.

LGV applicants registered to an address within Newcastle, Gateshead or North Tyneside local authority areas no longer need to provide evidence of business activity in the CAZ.

LGVs registered outside of Newcastle, Gateshead and North Tyneside and all HGVs are still required to evidence they conduct regular business inside the zone.

We’ll write to you to confirm whether you are eligible for funding. The letter will include information on what to do next and details of the finance providers you can contact.

Step 6 - Contact one of our finance providers

The provider will carry out further eligibility checks and will distribute the grant on our behalf.

They can also help you to source a replacement vehicle and arrange finance to cover the remaining cost.

Do not purchase a replacement vehicle before speaking to one of our finance providers first.

Step 7 - You are now ready to replace your vehicle

Once the finance provider has confirmed you can proceed, you can sell your non-compliant vehicle and purchase your new one. Remember that sales and purchases must not be made in cash or you will lose your funding eligibility.
