How much funding will be available?
There will be different levels of funding for different vehicle types, as follows:
Taxis and private hire vehicles: up to £3,500
Wheelchair accessible vehicles: up to £4,000
Light goods vehicles and vans: up to £4,500
Heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches: up to £16,000.
The amount of funding you receive will be based on the sale and purchase prices of your old and new vehicles. Please speak to the financial provider handling your grant application before agreeing a vehicle sale or purchase.
Please be aware that due to financial auditing requirements, grants cannot be provided if the vehicle sale or purchase has been made using cash.
I manage a fleet of vehicles – can I get a grant for each one?
Yes, you can apply for a grant for each vehicle.
Please note that for vans and light goods vehicles, you can only receive funding for a maximum of three vehicles.
A separate application would need to be made for each non compliant vehicle in the fleet.
How long does it take to be given a grant?
We aim to issue the grant funds as quickly as possible. The financial process is handled by a financial provider who has experience of previous grant schemes.
If you have applied for a grant and receive an approval letter, you will be given an automatic 90-day exemption from the date your letter is issued.
You should continue to pay CAZ charges until you receive a notification of the outcome of your application.
Can I apply for a grant if I only travel through the CAZ?
This will depend upon the vehicle type and the location of the address that the vehicle is registered to.
Some applicants will be required to provide evidence of regular business activity within the Clean Air Zone in order to qualify for funding.
Please check our eligibility critieria for details.
Can I appeal against a grant decision?
To appeal you must email cazgrantappeal@newcastle.gov.uk within seven days of receiving a rejection letter.
